Verizon Sues Maryland County Over Cable-Franchise Impasse 

 June 29, 2006 Verizon Telecom filed a federal lawsuit against Montgomery County, Md., charging that its unreasonable and illegal cable-franchising process and demands have prevented them from bringing video choice and competition to the county’s residents.
