How can I watch 3D TV at Home?
Creating 3D TV images involves mimicking the way that our eyes work in normal life. As our eyes are about three inches apart, each eye sees
a slightly different perspective of our surroundings and the brain merges these two images together, using the difference to calculate depth.
So, 3D TV recreates this process by showing two slightly different images and using special glasses to separate them.
In order to view 3D In Your Home, you will need:
3D TV
3D Glasses
3D Bluray Player or
3D HD STB Box from your Cable/TV Provider
Obviously, Your Cable/TV provider has to be providing 3D Content for the last option above to work. Below is a cool Illustration
What Are The Types of 3D TV?
There are currently two different types of 3D TV available. Passive and Active sets. The main difference between the two is the glasses that
you have to wear. Whilst the technology behind the glasses is different they offer a similar 3D experience.
1. Passive 3D TV
This is similar to what you would experience in the cinema whilst watching a 3D movie. Passive TVs use polarised glasses to separate the images
displayed, only letting the correct image intended for the left and right eye filter through the relevant lens. One of the key features for consumers is
that these same polarised glasses are currently used in 3D cinema screenings and are sold at a very accessible price point and some
passive 3D TV’s come with a pair of glasses included.
Advantages
Accessible for many of y our friends and family to come and enjoy 3D
Glasses are cost effective and easy to replace if lost or broken.
Provides a convenient 3D experience – glasses do not require batteries.
Some passive TV’s use the same side by side frame format as Content providers dedicated3D channels making it the perfect choice for watching the
latest content available via your 3D HD box.
2. Active 3D TV
Active 3D TV sets use special LCD shutter glasses (Example LG model: AS-S100) which are activated by the emitter built inside the TV. The glasses shutters open and
close at different times to allow different images into each eye. In comparison to passive TVs, these glasses house much of the 3D technology
required to create the 3D images in the glasses themselves and therefore make them significantly more expensive. These require charging which can be done easily via a USB connection found on the back of the TV’s or using your laptop. LG’s active 3D TVs are the LX9900 (2 pairs included) and LX6900 (1 pair included) series.
Advantages
Provides a Full HD 1080p 3D image to each eye.
Glasses contain advanced technology to provide a full high definition 3D viewing experience

The real d system glasses or more accuratly Polarized 3d glasses block and unblock two different light waves of all the double images. Tv can not put out two different light waves so therefore channels do not broadcast the polarized 3d format because no one could watch it anyway. Most likely the format on cable is the anaglyph 3d format that uses the red and blue colors to block and unblock images. Obviously they use that format since all tvs can do color.
